Aelia Luxury Apartments is a complex of modern design and high aesthetics, which is built in Nikiti Chalkidiki, a landscape of unparalleled beauty. Nikiti is the natural crossroads of the peninsula and is built on an area of about 2.3 square km. It is about 36 km away from the capital, Polygyros, and about 100 km away from Thessaloniki, a very beautiful and busy city. There are more than 3,000 permanent residents in the village, while during the summer months the population reaches 20,000 people.
Nikiti is a place with astonishing natural beauty and it is renowned for its splendid beaches. Crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, lush pine forests, which sometimes reach the sea, comprise the landscape of some of the most beautiful coasts found in Northern Greece. Sithonia is also a religious destination since it is very close to Mount Athos, as well as to other archaeological places found in Chalkidiki.
In the old part of Nikiti, the buildings are made of stone and date back to the middle of the 19th century and to the beginning of the 20th century. Moreover, many of the houses are representative of the Macedonian architecture of the late 19th century and have been recently renovated. The oldest building, however, is a small temple next to the cemetery, dating back to the 16th century. Another very interesting temple is that of the patron saint of the village, Saint Nikitas, which is built on the highest point of the village. Next to the temple, there is Nikiti’s old Primary School, which has been recently renovated and it is now a Folk-Art Museum. A walk in the cobbled streets of the old town is undoubtedly going to fascinate even the most demanding visitor.
It is also worth mentioning that Nikiti is famous for the production of a very tasty and high-quality product, its honey. The beekeepers of Nikiti produce almost 1/10 of the honey that is produced in Greece. Nikiti’s cooperative is called ‘’Sithon Honey’’ and is the biggest in the country. You can visit it and take a glimpse of how honey is produced as well as taste its unique flavors.
Last but not least, the Crossing of Toroneos Gulf is a major athletic event which takes place every summer (usually in the middle of July) in Nikiti. It is one of the toughest, yet one of the most impressive swimming competitions (marathons) in Greece. Athletes need to cross 26km, starting from Kallithea in Kassandra and finishing in Nikiti Sithonia, receiving a wreath of laurel leaves as the only reward; and this is what makes the crossing unique. It is an international sporting event since swimmers from all over the world usually take part in it.
